Oil pump end clearance This one for is for you Jim nicolson!

When sanding the cover on te 350 oil pump is plasti-guage an exceptable way to measure the running clearance? Tnx in adv. John

The traditional way is with shim stock starting with .0005, and making sure it turns, then going to .001 and tightening it down while turning it gently. If it locks up, no issue, if it turns it is too loose. I would give plastigauge a go for it, assuming the gears are down (gravitationally speaking) when putting it in. Jim

Thanks To you both for the input ,finding shim stock here in N.E. Oregon is hard --finding gold wud be easier. Most of the old mechs and parts guys retired or quit the trade. will post my success/failure when I -git 'ur done.
