I have a IH 340 utility, 1958, oa the left side just behind the seat there is a handle, which pulls up and can be locked in several positions. It is the control for the traction control. My question--- what is traction control for, what does it do?

Thanks to all
Bob

Bob: Rick is correct, and probably only used for fast hitch moldboard plowing. Remember also this was the beginning of automatic draft control for IH. Not great by todays standards, but it was part of the evolution.

The draft won't work at all if you don't remove the pin in the bottom cylinder mount. This allows the hitch to float.
