Farmall A motor

While doing a tune up on my A I noticed a plate below the mag housing on the front of the motor any gusses as to what it is for? The motor was replaced before I got the tractor. acording to the block numbers it is a 1955 motor.

A Super A or a Super C would have had the hydraulic pump where your plate is.

Scotty named it, I say why not use it. Put hydraulics on it. A pump would be the big ticket (used about 350) then use a reservoir and a valve set. Cool JimN

What should be behind the plate? A geer or a place for one?

The plate covers the mounting area for the pump. When the plate is removed, part of the timing gear is exposed allowing the gear on the pump to engage with the timing gear.
