live power on H or M

Can a H without live pto be converted to have live PTO. I would like to have an H or M with livepower to pull my old squarebaler.

You will need to have a Super M or Super M TA with live power take off. The PTO unit in the back of the transmisson housing is bigger than a standard H or M. Hope this Helps.

Not rationally. A complete rear end, making an H or M TA would work, but it ruins 2 good tractors. So I would not do it. There are M&W (and other) kits that replace the left hand bull pinion with a double shaft system and a clutch system on the end of the brake system. A lever controls the clutch, making a hand clutch device. This clutch stops the power through the bull gears and as a result, stops the tractor W/O stopping the trans, or PTO. These kits were made during the era of the tractors. Thus finding the whole thing, in good shape, is tough. Parts are not being made. Good luck. JimN

Sorry, super Ms didn't have Live PTO. Some had Live Hydraulics, some didn't. Just info, not a flame. JimN

Thanks, Good info to know. I am not brand loyal and I guess a WD or JD 50 or 60 might fill the bill. Just wanted an inexpensive tractor to pull and old squarebaler. Live power just makes baling easier.

Find your self an Oliver 77, or Super 77 or 88 etc. They can be picked up for around the same price as the other but they also have independent PTOs and the 6 cylinder torque is hard to beat. I use 2 Oliver every year for haying. 1 does the MOCO and the other the NH850 baler.

A good job when raking will eliminate the need for ;ive pto. Just how do you think we got the job done before they had live pto.

just a little bit more info to what jim mentioned, i have seen a super W6 with live pto and no TA. so i am presuming it was just under serial # 10,000 as over 10,000 had the TA. so i am wondering if the super M wouldnt be in the same boat.that towards the end of production it could be either way. just would be nice to know.

Torque power is in fact on of the big pluses. Because of the 6 cylinder instead of a 4 cylinder they put out more torque power per HP then the others. At one time I had a Farmall 450 rated at 55HP as per the Neb. test and my Oliver Super 88 pulled circle around the 450 both rated at 55hp and hands down the S88 will/would do more then the 450 and the 450 even has a big Cubic inch engine then the S88 does. 450 has 281 and the S88 has 265

Adding a hand clutch will give you Live-PTO on a M but it may be easier and cheaper to get a different tractor.

You bought a baler with a Wisconson engine on it  .

There wasnt anything wrong with them also. There were lots of both around this area. When we did custom work with the Model 80 New Holland it had the big Wisconson with starter and that was a baling monster even had hy control for tension.

You don't 'need' & I didn't have live or Independent PTO to run an engine-less baler........it just makes life easier.

Gene, I still use my Model 80 every year for about 300 bales of wheat straw. It is a neat machine and it can put through some product! Dick
