slobbering 674 with D239

Have a 674 IH with the D-239 diesel, tach has 2800 hours, but with the way the shift levers are worn I think there is more, seems to have started slobbering, lot of carbon buildup on muffler pipe and leaking a little around exhaust gaskets. Do I have a bad injector or valve guides leaking. Starts and runs great light black at start up, light blue smoke at full throttle. Thanks, Brent

Are you using it under load, or for light loader like work. If light intermittent work, it will do it no matter what. Work it for several hours and see if it is better. I'll bet it will improve with work and heat. JimN

I agree with jim put it to work and the slobering will stop. A diesel engine needs to work to run clean. I had a 686 diesel and running it at 1500 rpm or slower would make it slober real bad i just had to put the disk on it for about an hour and it was all better. I found running it at 1800 rpm or higher was better for the engine and dont let it idle.Erik..

FWIW, I recently acquired an MD which weeped at the head gasket on the gas side of the motor. I have plowed several acres with it with a little genius 3 bottom, and disked a 20 acre field. Worked it hard, but followed correct shutdown procedures. The tractor now shows no sign of leaks, weeps. etc. Dry as a bone.
