Mower to fit H

I have an H that i would like to put a sickle bar mower on for mowing the fields for hay. I have had difficulty here in Washington finding a sickle bar mower for the H. Is anyone running anyother type of mower on an H besides a sickle bar mower. I do not mow very much hay (6acres)each year and want to keep the cost down. There is also no one in the area that is willing to come in and do the mowing for me.

HI I have a neighbor that uses a John Deere #5 mower on either an H or M it looks like it bolts on with some minor work sorry to mention JD here Dave

No need to apoligize. John Deere did make a few good pieces of equipment (O.K., quite a few) and the #5 sickle bar mower was one of them. A Farmall H with a #5 mower is one sweet set-up. I spent countless hours running one.

The mower sold to fit the Farmall H is the 27V. I have both this and a Deere#5 and like the Farmall mower better.

I like my 1110 the best (fully mounted) because I don't have to look back, everything I need to see is in front of me. The 100 trailer mower is OK, and will work with pretty much any tractor.

There is also the 120 semi-mounted mower that is almost as handy as the 1110...

Can't beat a balanced-head IH mower! There's a reason they still make them after over 50 years!

Even though I personally will never use another one if I can help it...what you need is a JD #5. I have two and I have $100 even in the mowers BEFORE repairs. Add a cylinder if you can as it is easier for lifting. Buy an extra pitman at JD or TSC and keep it handy. Make sure sections and ledgers are in good shape and the bar has enough lead to compensate for drag. Get a manual at JD and it will tell you all about it. IF you take the time to set it up right, keep it greased, and remember it is an old mower with a wood stick for a drive system...six acres will fall in a few hours. Really good cheap solution for small acreage. You can cut a lot of hay with them once you get to understanding them.

Steven...lost your e-mail and I have a pic of a mower I would like to show you. Could you shoot me an e-mail...mine is open.
