A fellow gave me cultivators off a C, middle and rear units, and I need to make them fit in the middle of a newer 35 hp 4 wheel drive tractor to cultivate some corn. I need to make up some new short, 32 inches or so, toolbars and the old IH bar is 1-3/8". I don't want to cutup and destroy the old IH stuff, I want to make up a couple new short tool bars and already have some 1-1/4" 1020 quality bar stock can I use the 1-1/4" or will it be to soft? What Quality bar stock should I get? I want to reuse the old trip type cultivator shanks with wedge bolt type clamps. bjr

Not that I am ripping on what you are trying to do, but did you ever consider picking up a good used three pt cultivator? On a cost benefit scale you might come out a little bit ahead, especially if you sold the IH cultivators to someone who has a C.

Good set of C cultivators are worth 300 bucks around here. If it were me I would buy a C to put the cultivators on. No one has ever made a better 2 row cultivating outfit than a C/SC/200.

My goal is to have midmount setup for visibiliy and control. The rear 3pt was a first option but I need to be able to see what I'm doing. It's a more costly option, but, I think being able to see is the best option. I'm tryin' not too get to elaborate and I think I can get done what I need by using a 2x6 hydraulic cylinder to lift the tool bars. There's room just under the 4 wheel transfer case and bottom of transmission for a 1-1/4" round shaft to make the side to side connection, like a rocker shaft. The mounting will go on flywheel housing side bolt holes. I doing light weed cultivation on already tilled soil. bjr

I was really looking for super A. I'm doin' little 1/2ac gardens and I thought a Super A would be more manuverable. The local Super A market is pretty tight. I found a couple rusting up in a fellows front yard and he wanted them to stay right there and expounded on how they were his retirement project and was not for sale. If someone knows of a fixerupper Super A Farmall that is "for sale" in Pacific Northwest, reply here. That was the reason for buiding a couple of short tool bars so's I don't destroy good tradin' parts. bjr

The C would be a good tractor in a garden as it will turn sharply. We even used our's for plowing out potatoes. We used a horse draw plow with it. My brother and I were in our teens a we wanted to go play baseball, but we had get those spuds out first. We didn't lose any time either
getting those spuds out and in baskets. Went over the plowed ground with a section of springtooth harrow to pull out any we had missed.
That was in 1950. The following 2 years I did it as my brother had joined the Air Force. I guess my dad, mom and sister did it in 1953 since I got drafted. Hal

A C can also be used as a one row cultivating tractor. They are easier to manuever than a SA is. Not as easy to haul on a trailer due to width needed for cultivating but work very well for any garden type work. If you can find a SC or 200 with fast hitch that is the way to go.

Shoot me an email and I will send some pics of my SC set up for gardening. I have plows, disk, planters, transplanter, mower, seed sower, rear blade, cultivators and some other implements for it.
