B250 starter replacement

I want to replace my old b250 hand lever starter with a modern solenoid type starter, Could anyone please help me in the right direction?

If the starter motor itself is in good condition, you do not need to replace the starter.

All you need to do is replace the mechanical switch with a commonly-available solenoid, and wire up a push button on the dash board to activate the solenoid. If you have a 6V battery, get a 6V solenoid or a 12V solenoid for a 12V battery.

If your B250 is the same as a B414, I did just that. I bought a new starter, solenoid equipped, for less than $200, last spring. Here is where I got it:
RF Engines
Morrice, Michigan

They ship anywhere and everywhere.

Thanks "Seeing Red" for your information so far, will you perhaps be able to give me the starter make model and number or any identification thats on it, I live in South Africa and rather want to get hold of it here?

It is just simply a direct replacement for he original starter for the BD 154 engine. When i rebuilt my engine and got the internals from them they offered me a new starter and told me they stock them. I am sure the BD 144 engine would be the same. It is 12 volts and spins that little engine over VERY nicely. I am not sure the lever starter is available anymore. I can get a ph# if you wish.

I got an adress locally where I can get a solenoid starter, wich drive pinion has got 10 teeth in stead of 11 teeth. The price is reasonably low but I"m not sure if this will be an issue, do you perhaps know if the starter that you replaced on yours also got ten teeth?

I never counted. They told me to take it home and bolt it on. Worked GREAT ever since, so I guess I really don"t know
