I have changed two Farmall Cub tractors to one wire Delco alternators. They are sitting side by side in workshop. They are wired the same way but one shows charge and one shows discharge on AMP meter. NEED HELP!! Thanks

George - It could be as simple as the ammeter wired is backward on the one showing discharge.

If the tractor has lights and/or battery (not magneto) ignition, with the engine stopped turn on the lights or ignition and observe which way the ammeter needle swings.

If the needle swings right (shows charge) the ammeter is wired backward. Simply swap the wires between the two ammeter posts and you'll be all set. For safety disconnect the battery ground cable before fooling with the wiring!

However if the needle swings LEFT when you do the test above it says the ammeter is working correctly - the problem then is the alternator.
