Want to paint rim, easy way to cover tire.

Joe I used masking tape around the rim then taped old news papers to the masking tape and it worked well for me on 2 rear wheels. Harley

You don't want it to stick too well. Use a low residue painters tape (I have a tire with white residue from duct tape. Duh!)

I use a piece of rope and push it between the rim and tire after all the air is out of tire . Then tape to the rope and tire sidewall and cover tire with plastic .You must re cover after you prime or the primer will blow off the plastic and into your new paint .Then after paint dries good pull the rope out of the wheel /tire .Push rope as far down into tire / wheel as possible so you get good paint coverage on the back side of wheel.

Coat it with Vaseline and your good to go. Be careful not to get it in the rim because if you do the paitn will not stick to the rim. When done just wipe off the over spray. It will also make the tire shine up real nice when done also. BTDT and find it works great and is cheap to boot

Joe S; Paint the sidewalls of the tires with concentrated "Dawn" dishwashing soap being careful not to get any on the rims. Let it dry a while and paint away. When you are ready to remove the overspray, scratch through the overspray with a pointed object to break the paint film and with a stiff bristled brush and water scrub off the paint.

Only one way to do it right. Take the tires off. Really not that much trouble. You can also paint the inside of the rims. I use por15 on the inside. Really makes the tires easy to mount. Bernie Steffen

I used a screwdriver to shove the tape between the rim and the tire and then tape newspaper to the tape. I have heard that the dishwashing liquid and vaseline work well. If you take them off the rim, odds are that the tire guy will scrath the hell out of them if the paint is too fresh.

I just painted the rims of my tractor lastweek and used Crisco on the tires. Just rub it on by hand on nice and thick. Afterwards, wash it off with some dawn and a good brush. Actually makes the tires look good.
