1206 surging

Bought a 1965 1206, assume 10000 hrs, ran horrible. pump timing was off several degrees. set back to 8 btdc, ran great just putting around the shop. now, we"re sidedressing corn with it and it"s constantly trying to rev up and slow down when working it. worst on headlands when you slow down, then it really gets to lobing and lunging bad. runs great when its still cold, just acts like it wont balance itself out (fuel wise) when it"s been used for a while. checked pump timing again, still 8 btdc. is there a governor or something i can adjust to keep it from turing into a charging bull like this? has standadyne pump. maybe pump needs sent in for repairs? suggestions are appreciated.

Dunno, but here's another one of those diesel 101 ‘oddities’.

They tend to try to "speed up" when they starve for fuel.

Have you checked those fuel filters/feed line/possible tank restriction?

has new fuel filters, didn't think about it starving so much. maybe will check for restictions like you mentioned. thanks al in ne

WE got one, I think it has been worked on. Just dont go below 17 or 18 hundred. The gov. can be very active, let her go. Thats what its all about fun!!!

Have changed fuel lines, tightened fittings, changed filters, great fuel flow from tank...all that's left is fuel pump. Guess we pull that & get the checkbook out.
