M has a after market 3 point hitch with a single hose when i let the lift down it falls fast ? is can i do any thing to let the lift down slow and easy? Thanks- General

It is gravity down, but with nothing on it, it shouldn't drop like like a rock. If it has a double acting cylinder on it, the port without a hose is supposed to have a vent plug on it. My guess is that if it simply has an opening with no vent plug it will drop faster. If the hitch has something on it, it will drop proportional to the weight.

A one way check restrictor can be placed in the hose to prevent dropping. Some are adjustable, some are fixed. They allow rapid lift, and slow drop. Kind of a chcck valve with a controlled leak. A good hydraulic shop can supply them. JimN

You need an combination adjustable flow control/check valve in the line to the cylinder. This allows full flow out to the cylinder so it extends normally. But it and provide an adjustable restriction to return flow back to the tank. This effectively controls the down speed of the cylinder to whatever rate you set.

Punch below for a typical flow control/check valve.

CNKS So what you are saying there is no adjustment on the pump itself you can change to dampen the drop. It simply dampen by the fluid flowing back to the pump is what you are saying right. If this is so and you have double acting cylinder why can't you put a adjustable flow valve on the cylinder port that has the vent plug.

That is what he's saying, Roy.

A restrictive vent will only go so far. You've got gravity and a lot of weight on the other side of the equation. They will simply create a vacuum inside the cylinder, which will fill with air eventually.

There should be some "feather" to the liftall valve on the tractor. You can slowly let down the 3pt by just slightly pushing the rod forward. It doesn't have to be slammed all the way ahead.

There is a certain "feel" to lowering something. On our M's and H's if you were careful you could release the oil slowly. Maybe not all pumps will work this way, but ours did.
