Thanks for the great info! I will change the coil, the problem does get worse as the day goes on (and it shocked the heck out of me when I checked for spark!). Would the coil also cause it to start hard? The reason I ask is sometimes I have to crank and crank to get it to fire. Usually by then it is flooded and gas is dripping out the bottom of the carb. Thanks for all your help, this is my first real attempt at resurrecting a treasure.
 
Yes a poor coil will contribute to hard starting. Intake manifold leaks can also act the same way. Use an unlit propane torch with the tip removed to find possible leaks in the gasket area or cracks. (do it outside, and don't turn the torch open much, just as though it was a low flame. You are feeding fuel into a leak that will speed up the tractor.
