I recently purchased a 1941 H farmall and the rearend was full of water and oil mixture . Where is the most probable place water is gettting in at and secondly what is the correct capacity for the rearend ??

Did you get a manual with the tractor? If not they are available on ebay, here on this site, or binderbooks.
Are you asking about the transmission fluid?
The drain at the center, lower back of the tractor?

Water in the rearend/trans is normal and common. The fluid probably hasnt ever been changed. There will be all sorts of gunk in there, so you will want to flush it out. I used about three or four gallons of diesel fuel and just drove around the yard. DO NOT PUT A LOAD ON THE TRACTOR. When you drain that out you need six gallons of gear oil. Or do what I did, 5 gallons of synthetic gear oil and a gallon of lucas.
 
The consensus on this forum is that there are two sources. One is condensation. As the trans cools it breaths in (water vapor in the air condenses inside). because the tractors are not run hard all day any more they do not get hot enough to heat the water out)
The second (and pretty easily fixed) source is the shifter tower. I would put a Constant velocity boot over the lever, and clamp it to the shaft.
Select the boot that fits best. JimN
 
When I bought my "41 H the very first thing I did was drain and
change the fluids. The tranny was all brown water - just like
yours.

It should take about 6 gallons of 90 weight transmission oil. If
you can, buy the 5 gallon bucket. Its considerably cheaper in
bulk.

Keep an eye on the main housing to axle gaskets - Once I
changed the fluid, that joint started leaking from the bottom.
Apparently, draining the water loosened whatever dirt had
collected at the bottom of the gasket opening a nice weep hole.
