350U IPTO Adjustment Question

Hello everyone,

I was out mowing some hay 2 nights ago and my PTO starting to not engage exactly correct. I don't believe it was slipping per say but I'm not sure! When I would get into some heavy area's it would stop but if I would lift up on the PTO handle it would then engage.

I was thinking this is a problem in the linkage and not the Bands? But I just don't know enough about the system to know. I have read in my service manual how to adjust it but frankly didn't get it. I did find on her some explanations on adjusting the bands that I can try.

I am just curious on input if you all think its the bands or the linkage though. Thanks!

Besides adjusting the bands, check to be sure there is very little slop in the whole lever/linkage setup. On my 330, which has a similar PTO, the pivot bushing for the lever was wobbled out and the key in the shaft was sheared half way off. Once I fixed that the PTO worked much better.

Mathew, I don't know what you mean by engages half way down but that sounds like the way it is supposed to work.
Look at it like this, you are working with mechanical linkage that moves mechanical bands that move to stop your pto or allow it to turn. If that linkage is sloppy, worn bolts, worn slots, worn holes, loose anything, then the bands are not going to open and close as they should causing dragging or slipping. Even correct adjustment will not overcome lots of slop. My 300U slipped for years in tall grass until I took the time to understand how it worked and adjust it properly. Which in fact is simple and easy.
Use the IHParts pictorials website, the posts I mentioned and hopefully an IT Manual then take your time fixing the slop and understanding the adjusting instructions.
Good luck,
Dell
