Running a bush hog with a transmission driven PTO (as is your Farmall A) requires an overrunning clutch. You might be able to find an overrunning clutch with a female part that fits the PTO shaft of your Farmall A and has the "standard" male part.

Go to left of your screen. Under Marketplace, click on tractor parts. Go to accessories and Miscellaneous parts. Scroll down to PTO parts and take your pick of adapters.

Yes, they make adapters. You can even get one at your local Tractor Supply.

The very early A, B, H, and M tractors had a 1-1/8" PTO shaft. That was before there was a standard.

Couple of months ago I would have agreed with you but D Slater (I think it was him) set me straight. Tractors over 25 HP never had the small shafts.

The early A, B and H (as did the F-12 and F-20) had the smaller 1-1/8 inch shafts the M had the 1-3/8 inch shaft. Both sizes were covered in the 1938 pto standard. However, in the early 1940s IH decided to make all their tractors with the same 1-3/8 inch pto shafts to save having adapters or more inconveniently different pto coupling shafts on different implements. I have a US made adapter for my 1937 O-12.
