I just acquired a international 584. It runs well but has been worked hard over the years. None of the gauges work, wiring is in bad shape, etc.

I noticed the brakes are spongy and from reading the forum, I think I read that the brakes use the hydraulic oil from the reservoir. I checked and it is low.

Questions Do I add Hydraulic oil in the plug in the back of the tractor, just above the top link mount? This plug has a female six sided hole to turn it out. What do I use as a tool for this?

Hi Wayne, you are correct the brakes are fed by hydraulic oil from the oil cooler in front of the rad. You will have to bleed the brakes to remove the air bubbles. There is a bleeder screw over each rear axle, looks like a grease zerk.
To add hydraulic oil, yes remove the plug on casting behind seat. It usually is a standard pipe plug but your 584 appears to be different. Some auto parts stores sell the set of hex sockets for brake calipers. Possibly one will be correct one.
If you search the archives using my JimB2 you should find procedure to bleed the brakes.

Our 4240 had a plug with a large square head on it. Seems to me the 684 had either the same thing, or a tube with a breather cap like the 786 had.
