Any tips or trick on installing a flywheel onto the crankshaft on an F-20 engine? Engine is out of the tractor so I may be able to stand it on end to help it on, read where other heat the flywheel but I worry the rear felt will be damaged.
Thanks.

Well the right way to do it is to make a puller tool of sorts that threads in the end of the crank and pull the flywheel onto the crankshaft. The way I did it most people advise against, as I used the holes that were tapped in the block and used various length bolts and heavy washers and pulled the flywheel on by tightning the bots slowly and in order. Challenge is to line up the notch for the pin. Again most people advise against this way as it puts a large lateral force on the bearings and housings holding the crankshaft.

I heated the flywheel slowly just to the point that a drop of water on it would just sizzle. I have a "holder" made up that allowed us to hang it from a chain hoist with it vertical. Be sure to have the keyways lined up and have the key ready. You can also put some ice on the crank (I put mine on in cold weather so the crank was cold). The flywheel slipped on very easily. Be ready with the key and be sure to keep the flywheel tight on the crankshaft. Put the key in and put the nut on. The flywheel will be tight on the crankshaft in only a couple of minutes, and if it's not in the right place, you get to pull it back off and try again (I know from experience). Good luck.
