McCormick Cream Separator parts help?

Any idea where I can find the 5/16" thick o-ring ( 4 3/4 ID, 5 1/2 OD) for the mccormick 3-G separator bowl? So far, all the industrial hydraulic places have said they don't have anything like it. I'm tempted to try 5/16" cord stock with loctite 404 superglue, but don't know how well it will hold together. Appreciate any help you can provide.

Are you talking about the special "O" ring with the steel spring inside that makes it collapse as the bowl slows, releasing water in a GUSH to clean the separator?

Your numbers don't quite add up. You might need to recheck your measurements. I don't know where to find the correct size 0-ring. McMaster-Carr has o-ring cord stock in various diameters in several materials including food grade Buna-N. You get the right diameter, cut to length and glue the ends together. Look on their catalog page and they provide some guidelines on the glueing. Buy a 3 foot section and you have enough material to get 2 tries at making one.

(quoted from post at 10:01:57 05/18/09) In a factory I worked at, we made our own o-rings for 1 machine with Loctite, but I don't know which #.
We made them too, but we had a kit with a yellow plastic or nylon "fixture" so you would cut it square with a razor blade and a "V" block to hold it straight while the glue dried. Don't remember the number of the Loctite either.

I have no clue if it has a spring in it, but yes when it slows, there is the gush of milk and cream that occurs and again as I'm going through the cleaning steps.

If you are talking about the "O" ring inside the lower part of the bowl, then, yes, it IS special and has a steel spring inside, which is what causes the gush all at once, as it slows down, as the spring overcomes centrifugal force and pulls the "O" ring inward, away from the holes in the lower part of the bowl shell.

You can feel that the "O" ring is "stiff" 'cause of the spring inside. Without that special "O" ring, the power washing function will no longer work.

I know a few years back already those were hard to come by. I don't know if anyone is selling them now.

Thanks Bob--Yes, that's the one.

Any idea what the brand name would have been for that o-ring that was still available a few years ago? I can certainly try to google it once I have a lead.

For right now, I've got EPDM 5/16 cord stock on order along with loctite 404 super glue to make it separate cream and may just have to wash it all by hand. I've got fresh milk from the dairy cows filling up all my containers. May have to skim the cream until the cord stock arrives! The dogs/cats/chickens are loving all the milk right now! Thanks again for your insights.
