1946 International Industrial A

I just bought an International Industrial A. It is yellow, has the square tube front axel, foot throttle & the support (s-shaped) bar that goes from the clutch housing to the front bolster. No hydraulics, so, it"s not a super A. Couple of questions, everything on mine is painted yellow...it does not appear to have been re-painted (or at least not in recent decades), I have another International SA that is painted red (like a Farmall)...which one is "correct", or did International paint some of them yellow & some red? #2, Assuming my tractor is factory yellow, what color should my wheels & wheel weights be? (right now, they are a very dark green, almost black). #3, all things being equal, is the International Industrial A worth any more than a regular Farmall A of the same era? #4 asside from the foot throttle, color, bigger rear tires, square fron axel tube & support bar, is there any other difference between the International Industrial & a regular Farmall A?

I expect they were painted any color the customer wanted. I have a 1944 Industrial A that was painted yellow and someone has painted it over with red. I believe the yellow is the same as used on the Cub Cadets. Wheels were probably the same as the tractor.

Color of the International A would have been to order. I assume that anything other than red required a special order and additional $$. A lot of them were red originally. The most common other colors seem to have been yellow or orange. If they remained in the hands of a local highway department long enough, they typically got repainted yellow. Whatever color was used, the whole tractor, including wheel disks, weights, starters etc. were the same color.

They don't seem to command a price premium. Seems that most everyone just wants a red tractor. So they shoot red on them and install "FARMALL" decals.

The differences between a Farmall and International:
- Heavy duty square front axle with brace to bell housing.
- Foot operated accelerator.
- Model ID differences:
-- Serial plate
-- Front emblem "INTERNATIONAL" in place of "FARMALL"
-- Hood side decals "INTERNATIONAL" in place of "FARMALL".

Tire size choices were the same. An International could have had diamond treads on the rear.

On the Super A, the differences were the same except the front emblem which was "IH" for both versions and internal Touch Control valving to slow it down.

I also have a 1946 industrial A. The orginal color, after removing grease was orange. From what i have found out, it was used in KY to mow the highways. Poor thing, it had a hard life as when i got it, it was on its second engine(service block). Well it was cracked so now its on its third engine and second head. One thing that is neat about it is that despite the service block, all the disilite pieces were put back on it. If you need any help with the decals i have a extra complete set for one. One of these days im hoping to paint it as i have already bought yellow paint for it.

My son is restoring a 1946 international Induatrial A for an FFA project. Do you still have decals and also looking for any books, etc. Just let me know Thank You
