Considering buying a 660 diesel. It is a 1959 model with suffixs including S-Y-CC. Do the late models have any advantage over the early models? Did the late models have any more power with the updated injectors and the newer style pump? How does a 660 stack up against a JD 830? Anything a guy needs to pay special attention to when buying one? Thanks.

Nothing to pay more attention to than most older tractors like that. Just check for play in front axle see if all gears wrok, T/A if it has one and check for play in the steering gears, etc. Only difference in engine is early 282s had loose fitting sleeves, later ones had tighter fitting sleeves, which really doesnt make a difference unless your gonna be rebuilding it. Horsepower is all about if its still at factory settings or not, Id guess that 80% or more have been tweaked over time. Only other difference in early and late is the transmission recall but than there would be a delta or triangle symbol stamped in the name plate.
