outer axle bearing on H sealed side in or out?

when I tore my axle apart I forget to look at what way the single sealed side of the bearing was. Was it sealed to the inside or sealed to the outside. Thanks

the open side goes to the grease or oil, that should be easy to figure out and remember.same with your seals lip to the oil.

Howdy
Seems we have two different opinions, so I will go with rustred. On a brg with one side sealed I would think that "shielded" side would be to keep out dirt and water, but allow the lube to get to the roller side. If I remember correctly brgs that are permanently lubricated are sealed on both sides.
P.S. only guessing here, but it seems it would make sense.

Ah... but not so easy to figure out in this case. The inside of the bearing is exposed to oil from the rear frame. The outside of the bearing is exposed to grease from the grease zerk. The shielded side goes in so that the grease can get into the bearing on the open side.

I go with Randy and Owen, The open side went toward the grease fitting on the axle cap or to outside. Later on IH started putting in bearings without a shield in other tractors and started selling them as replacements for earlier tractors. replacement axle caps were sold without grease zerk openings also.

owen, thats exactly what i was trying to point out.if it gets grease it goes to grease, if it runs in oil it goes to oil.not bashing, but things get interpreted differently.
