rod journal specs

1941H

Anybody know what the factory specs are for the rod journals of the Farmall H? I've ordered the service manual but it will take a week to get here and I would like to order a rebuild kit before then. It looks like mine run about 2.243 inches. Do I need to order larger connecting rod bearings or not? Thanks

if you are not familiar with a micrometer and how to read it. Take the crankshaft to a respectable engine builder and have them measure it and polish or grind it if necessary. They can also order the correct Rod and Main bearings for you.
I assume by your handle you have a 1941 H. Make certain you order the correct kit with the proper VALVE length. The H had two different valve lengths and also two different rod sizes.
Just hate to see ya get burned and order the wrong kit.

Just out of my head I think the std is 2.249 So yours would be wore .006 Time to get it ground. It may or may not clean up at .010. Usually the center main will be worn also & you can't tell unless you get it out and measure it.

Standard measurement for rod journals is 2.2475 - 2.2485

I agree with Brad, unless you know how to use and read a micrometer and how to measure the crank journals for taper and out-of-round, have your auto machine shop measure it and polish or grind as necessary. Judging by your measurement of 2.243, I would say that your crank needs to be ground.

I would have your local auto machine shop to double check your journals measurements. My manual call for 2.2475-2.2485" on the rods prior to s/n 391358. Looks like they need to be ground .010" undersize. Have your machine shop to furnish the corrects bearings. Hal

You had better get the main journals measured too since they may be worn. You should have that engine block dipped and cleaned and all the oil passages blown out with air. Have new cam bearings intalled so you will have good oil pressure. You may as well install a new sleeve kit with new pistons. Hal
