Making Tires Attractive

1941 Farmall A.
What is the best product to spiffy up my rear tires. The tires are in good shape, but look a little tired. I know there is Armorall, but is there not something better. I know Gene Bender recommended something, but I can't remember what or where you buy it.

The best is flat black spray paint.

Some go the shiny direction - but when I'd photograph tires for the ad industry, I'd spray them flat and they look better every time.

I agree on the flat black.

Another way to apply is to brush it on after thinning it with mineral spirits. Mix it 2 parts thinner to 1 part flat black. It really soaks into the cracks of old tires well and also hides overspray.

Tucker Tire or Miller Tire used to sell some sort of tire paint. Maybe they still do.

I gotta imagine spraying the tires with flat black rustoleum only lasts a little while if you're using the tractor. For a museum piece or trailer queen, it's probably a more practical solution. Dunno about the "real" tire paint though...

There are many products from an auto supply store that work, many can be painted on. Just another idea. I used to use a spray on foam product on my car tires, while it did not add color it turned the tires to like new color as it cleaned them down to the rubber.

i use the spray on tire foam cleaner. works real good, easy to use. heres a 42 m before and after. same tires

Tom: Guess we are on opposite extremes on these old tractors. My 1940 M is sitting stuck in mud down to the drawbar and will have to stay there until things dry up, when I get it out I might spray some of the mud off but maybe not.

I used the tire paint from Miller and it worked very well. It's been almost 2 years and the tires still look like the day I painted them. But this tractor is garage kept and parades only.

My friend Dwight has his guy use that when he's trying to really make a low-hour machine look pretty. Also works on plastic grills and fuel tanks.

I use Bleche Wite for cleaning and then a spray on tire dressing when they are dry. Works for cars and tractors!
