Mag or distributor?? Need more info to help you much. Now if I had to guess I would say the points need to be cleaned or replaced which is the most common problem when you have no spark

might need to plug your self in tonight! just joking...buddy.need more info.was the tractor sitting for years?did it just stop?dist? mag?did you check the points? can be lots of things.its ok to give info.but no sense getting tired typing and on wrong road.

thanks guys i will check the points for him i am a jd guy so i dont know much about them but i think i have an idea

It worked great for 2 years then we replaced the head gasket and when we put it back together it ran for a little bit. then it died and wouldnt start. but if you let it sit it will start for 10 seconds and dies. Now it has no spark what so ever

Clean the points with some 320 wet or dry until shiny. If they're pitted replace them. If its a distributor you need to check for battery voltage to the coil. With the points open you should have battery voltage on both small terminals. Use a volt meter or test lite. A magneto does not require battery voltage since they can produce its own fire when the magnets pass by the coil, but they have points too and they need cleaning with 320 wet or dry. Check the point gap should be .013" on a mag and .020" on a distributor. Hal

Can you diagnose a no-spark problem on your JD 70? If so you can diagnose it on a Farmall. The same principles apply.
