Look I have had this tractor for roughly ten years; I really like this tractor alot and I do not plan on getting rid of it. I use the tractor to cut grass it has a 62 inch woods cutting deck on it. Also to note I have had no problems cutting the grass before. The only problem I have had was with the pto not engaging. To solve this problem I have moved the pto guide back several times, each time I had to move the guide back further to get the pto to engage. Now to get the pto to engage I had to take the guide completely off and move the pto switch all the way back. The pto will engage, but anytime the pto gets under a load it kicks right out. I used this tractor to cut the grass two weeks ago when I was running it then the pto keep on kicking in and out but it was not that bad. But as I said now everytime I engage the pto as soon as I start to cut grass it disengages. I would really appreciate some help on this issue so I can try and figure out how to fix it my self. If I cant fix it myself I am going to take it to hoober and pay a couple thousand to get it fixed.
Also I believe I am not sure what year this tractor it is lat 50 early 60s I do believe.

Go to TM Tractor website. They have a kit to overhaul the Cub PTO. Price is listed at $136. It should have everthing you need to fix your PTO. It sounds like something is worn in there, causing your PTO to jump out of gear. Common problem on the Cubs. This is not a difficult fix, as it can all be done from the back end by removing the PTO cover plate and PTO assembly. Get yourself a parts catalog and an IT manual and you should be able to do it yourself.

I've got a Cub that has been doing the same. I replaced the PTO shaft and the PTO clutch last year to get through the mowing season. Just ordered a new input shaft from this site this morning as the old one is now all ground down I would just about bet yours is the same.

I have searched farmallcub.com and I have searched this website. Not one person has posted the exact question that I have(in the sense that they have moved the guide back). I found something out on farmallclub that said that an old cub dealer used to do what I did to my cub when people came in with pto problems. He said that on older model cubs they made the coupler to short so you had to keep on moving back the pto switch.

The splines on the sliding shaft are rounde of thats why it doesent want to enguage. Take the back plate off that shaft will come out with the plate. Then you can see your problem. You mite be able to renew the ends of both shafts with a file. The spring loaded shift lever mite also need some repair so it can hold the shafts together when in gear.

had the same problem and it is explained well in the link. if i held i back farther it would work for a little longer. both my pins and coupler and pto shaft were worn. i replaced it all in a couple of hours and it has worked flawlessly since.

they are right the splines are getting worn but it is most likely the pin riding in the collar is worn down so it cant push the collar back far enough to engage the splines properly. i wouldent continue to run it like that, it can cause excessive wear from unloading.

Well, you are not going to get exact answers to your question unless someone has the exact same problem. That is unlikely no matter what forum you ask the question on.

What you should do, is to consult the TC-37 series Parts Catalogs.. that are on the Cub Manual Server. Familiarize yourself with how the parts all go together.. Then have a look at your pto... compare the guide if that is the part you suspect, check the part number and see if it matches up with what you feel the problem is. Then see what the revised part number is and see what the change will be... You might also find that it may be the one of the related parts as already suggested. But the key is to be familiar with all the parts and how they fit together. The Parts Manual can do that.

I have a feeling that the solution will be clearer. It usually is.

No one can visualize your problem except you. You have to be able to describe the problem succintly with as many references as possible to make it easier for others to understand what you are doing.. that is the only way you are going to get the help you need.
