SA Transmission and Final Drive lube

All, need help here as my manuals have not yet arrived.

One of my final drive housings has a leak on the LH (short) side of the SA and I can't see where to refill or check it. While I haven't taken the wheel off, I have had my hands all over the casting and the stamped cup underneath with no clues. The housing is seeming to leak highest from the square bearing cover and is oozing out some flexible white stuff like a form-a-gasket was used (but I bet they didn't get it clean first).

Next issue is the transmission oil, I believe I have located the drain plug under the longitudinal PTO housing. (I have the added right-angle PTO for my Woods mower). Is there a level checker for the transmission? (dipstick, etc) or is the only sure way to get it correct to completely drain and refill?

Oil drain AND filler plugs on the final drives are toward the front of each housing on the wheel side. Check plug for the transmission is on the lower front left side of the transmission housing behind the brake rod.
 
Matt: One item you should remember about transmission and final drive leaks on offsets. 65% of them are created by transmission being over full. When the transmission is over full it leaks down and over fills the final drives.

On the bottom of the transmission you'll find an open port, supposed to drain off excess from transmission. When the chanels to that port are plugged, excess oil from transmission goes to final drive, usually the left one first.

Fill to level and fill plug on final drive are on front inside of each final drive. Takes a 1/2" drive to remove it. To drain a final drive you must remove the sump pan.

Fill to level plug for transmission is just below front tip of left fender, on side of transmission case and behind brake activation rod.
 
First, thanks for the replies. I snapped a couple of photos to help this out...not sure if this works in classic or not (??)

First, I am wondering whether the cross-tie-bar for my Woods mower is blocking the fill and level ports for the final drives (??) I still can't find the fill ports and I'm now guessing I have to drop this crossbar but wanted to confirm that first.

Next, easy one, filler plug for the trans, on top of the cover next to the gear shift lever.

Here is the trans level plug Hugh spoke about, different sized ratchet nose next to the brake actuator tie-rod.

Last pic has 3 ports, bottom one hidden in the shadow from the belt is the trans drain (although is visible in the top picture, top of the photo). Next there is the edge of the fill plug for the rt-angle-PTO on top and a square head plug for the drain below...guess no level-full plug for the rt-angle-pto.

One interesting thing I noted while poking around is that this SA only has 1 actual stamped rim. The other "rim" is actually a thick cast wheel weight....hmm...
 
The right wheel is cast to counter-balance the offset engine. I have changed the oil in the final drives once, while I had my Woods mower off for another purpose. I have forgotten where the drain plug is, and looked at the diagram in the manual wrong. Looking at my SA, it has to be behind the brackets; I thought the diagram said wheel side, must be on the inside.
 
Matt: That fill to level plug for the transmission takes 5/16" square. I have about 2" piece of 5/16" key stock I keep in my tool box just for that.

Fill to level port for the right angled gear box empties into the transmission. Oil is supplied to that box by transmission and excess flow back to transmission.

Keep that cast wheel on the right and it will keep you upright. It's standard equipment on offsets.
 
Thanks to all for the info so far. The SA is the best grass cutter I've yet owned and I want to make sure it stays that way! My engine needs a rebuild as I'm smoking out the crankcase breather under load but I'm going to try to make it thru this year before I undertake that....(then hopefully inside a temp-controlled and dry building :) )
