hi. i just bought a 400 diesel that is supposed to have a new clutch and ta in it. if im pulling something and stop it doesnt want to come out of gear. i have to pull it out of gear as i stop. is something out of adj or did something get put back wrong. thanks

Adjust the main clutch first, then adjust the TA to spec. New doesn't mean it was adjusted right.

When you step on the clutch pedal, it will release both the engine clutch and the TA clutch, if they are adjusted properly. Yours is most likely not releasing the TA clutch completely. Due to age and wear, you may need to adjust the TA linkage to different specfications than what you find in the manual. Continue to adjust until it shifts properly.

You should have invested in a manual, your clutch and TA are out of adjustment. These have to be adjusted by the book, close doesn't count, not even a little bit.

Sounds like you got taken when you bought it except it sounds like you didn't test drive it before you bought it. Anybody who can put a new clutch and ta in should be able to adjust it no problem. Takes certain skills to go that far. Don't think it was put in by a kid flippin burgers at McDonalds.

Post back with what you find out. Hope it is just an adjustment issue.

No, but pulling back on the TA will tell you that it's an adjustment problem for sure.

Just try it as a test. If it shifts okay with the TA lever pulled back, then all it needs is adjustment.
