1962 International 504 Bottom end Rebuild: Help with damper

I"m working on a 1962 IH 504 with the D188 motor. It had a broken crankshaft when I picked it up. I have the crank all the bearings and seals but can"t find the balancer assembly available anywhere. Mine was missing from the tractor, but I didn"t discover that until I had everything sufficently removed so I could get at the bottom end and look around. If you look on page 34 of the model 330, 340, 504 2504 section of the IH-201 shop manual, figure IH1335C I am missing numbers 17 thru 22. I"m guessing that the original reason the crank broke is that the previous owner ran the engine without this installed. Any help or suggestions about changing the crank and working on this D188 engine would be appreciated. And if anybody knows where I could find my missing parts please let me know.

Scott, I have a 340D with the smaller 166 cuin engine without balancer, went shopping finaly found an engine, bought it, and again no balancer, so me suspicion is the balancer is an optional item primarily for continious high speed applications. I hope someone of authority chimes in here. fred

That would be great if you were right about that.

So do you, or anybody else, think it would be alright to run this without the balancer/damper? Just run the engine with light load. Then I could button everything back up and get one when I get one.

Balancer used only on 188 not 166,very much needed for vibration control in long stroke 4 cylinder engine. I have the same 188D engine in 504. About two months ago I got some parts from a outfit in MO. At that time he had in stock a balancer for your engine, along with a lot of other stuff. Give them a call or email, nice honest people.
