International 4130 skid loader

Looking for information on the value of an International 4130 skid loader, my neighbor has one just sitting in his barn that he no longer uses. It’s a nice clean machine there are no leaks and the tires all hold air. He said he would sell it but didn’t know what they are worth. It needs a new battery. Are they good are there any problems with them? He just used it to clean out his lamb barn and they have been gone for a couple of years now.

Mayor: Those were a hard sell back when they were new, not sure why. Personally I bought a Case in 1972 and a 2nd one in 76. I guess I'd have to say I didn't look at IH as the dealer didn't have one in stock. I don't know as he ever sold an IH skidsteer. IH dealers in my area sold Bobcats.

I know the IH skid steer got dropped like a hot potato at merger time with Case.

Don't know and don't know how big it is or what you want to use it for and would it meet your purposes and price range. Those small ones wouldn't be good for moving big bales but you can throw your tools in the bucket and scooting around checking fence, cattle, and do some dirt work.

If it was me, I'd offer him a grand subject to taking a battery over there and check it out. Run if forwards, reverse, in circles, and make a lot of tight turns, etc. You want to make sure the drives are all working and the hydraulics are working. Set the bucket against a tree or foundation and see what kind of drive power you have. See if you can nose the bucket into the ground and scoop out a load. Then backfill your hole to test that part.

Engine problems are easier to deal with than the drives for me anyway. I don't know much about the drives but they can be expensive to fix and I'm not sure which one that has. Make sure there is no knock in the engine. It goes without saying that if the guy wanted more, that my test drive would show enough potential problems that it wouldn't be worth it. I've dealt with many a car salesman in my time (great shape when they are selling and lousy shape when I'm trading in or when they are selling its all "highway" miles but when I'm trading in its all "high" miles, go figure)

Check ebay and craigslist for them.
