H manifold

I have a just aquired an H that is running poorly, I noticed that the intake side of the manifold ( the short neck where the carb is bolted on) is extremely hot to the touch directly above the carb. I suspected that the manifold has a hole or crack internally ? causing exhaust to enter the intake side ? What do you guys think.

Yes. Normally that should be very cold, actually forming ice in the right conditions.

I'm pretty sure my whole manifold gets hot. I would check tha manifold for tightness against the head. Also check the gaskets.

I wonder if you have a kerosene, distillite manifold. If the outlet pipe bolts on instead of screwing in thats what you have. They came with a butterfly valve inside manifold that could be adjusted to heat the intake side of manifold. If so make sure the butterfly is in the open position.
