I have a chance to buy a BN which I have always wanted. He wants $800 for it. I think this is too much because he says..."I have never attempted to start the engine. The gear shift does move freely, there is visible green anti-freeze in the radiator, and the rear brakes appear to be frozen. The asking price is $800 or best offer." I was wondering what it is really worth? I was looking foward to something under $400, If its in as bad of shape as he says.

Thanks for your help

id say around 400-500 is in range for what you describe 800 is too much for a non runnning tractor. also looks to have front and rear weights there wroth 250 or so alone.

Andrew

not really just what the guy has told me he just sent me pics and told me whats wrong. it could be something else.

I paid 600 for my non running loose B. I had to put a new valve guide in the head and put it back together and it fired up. I would say it is a little high in that condition.

If I could see the right side (rear) I could tell if it is a BN but it looks just too darn wide to be one. Believe it or not, that is a pretty darn nice tractor. You really do NOT want to buy a tractor without going to look at it. I know a lot do but you will get burned by stuff you don't see even if you are standing next to it...so go look. The weights, decent sheet metal...I would go $5-600 for it. If you can get the engine to turn over a couple of times by hand I would grab it in a minute. If it is stuck fast maybe go lower. If that is anywheres near me..shoot me an e-mail. If you decide to pass on it I MIGHT just go for another.

"Never attempted to start it" means he hit the starter button and nothing happened. Also doesn't look like a BN to me. I would be real skeptical of anything else the seller says.

Looks like a B to me, not a BN. It"s to wide. It does have front weights (definite plus). I would think the $500-$600 range. Just my 2 cents.

pretty straight looking tractor. drawbar is kinda different!! tractor has the wide rear axles of a b, but has bn on the tin work. could either be a straight b with bn tin, a b that was redecaled long ago with the wrong decals, or could be a bn that somebody put the wide b rear axles on. no telling what happend in the 60 or so years that tractor has been around.

Looks like a BN to me with the wheels flared. A restored BN will not sell for much more than $1500, if you are lucky. It could cost you more than that to restore it if the sleeves and pistons have to be replaced. That is not counting you labor to clean it up and prep it for painting. It is not worth much in the condition it is in. Check the SN. It should include the prefix FBN if it is one. If a B, it will have a prefix of FB.

A restored BN can bring twice what you think. But restored means more than just new paint. There are people who want one completely rebuilt and will pay good money. Last restored B i sold bought more than twice what you think they are worth. You never know who will want one. Sold it on a tractor ride during a break buyer was looking for just what i had.

Dont you think that because the wheels are set out a bunch and oversized makes it look like its not a BN. The seat isnt correct so that throws the looks some. Would part out real good as theres lots of goodies to sell.
