International 56 Corn Planter??????

Seed hopper speed for Sivler Queen Sweet Corn is faster than for a x-small Sweet corn Seed correct????? I would want to slow down Seed plate speed for the x-small seed by putting the chain drive on a bigger sprocket???? Just bought it today with no book and need to plant first planting within the next couple of days.....Any site I can get a diagrahm from?????Thanks for all your help and input.....

to slow down the speed, you would want a smaller sprocket on the driver, and/or a bigger sprocket on the driven side.
the speed should be independent of the seed size. the plates need to match seed size for the correct seed placing. 1 seed per notch (loose but not enough room for a second seed to try and wiggle in here and there).
i don't have a manual for your planter, but a crude way to check population would be to run it in the driveway and play with sprocket combinations to get 1 seed every 5-7".

If you have the correct plate for each the speed will be the same. I don't understand your original question. To change the distance between seeds you can shift to 2 or 3 or 4 or change chain driver and driven sprockets. Big driver and small driven gives closer spacing and small driver and large driven gives wider spacing.

5to7 seems a little on the thick side for sweet corn shouldnt the spacing be more like 12-15 as the 5-7 would be in the 25,000 plants per A range

A scan from the 56 manual would be helpful actually... I am in much teh same boat... new to me 455 (more or less the same as a 56) and no idea what sprocket combination gives what spacing with 16 and 24 cell plates...

put sweet corn in 8 - 12 inches apart... any heavier and you'll be thinning by hand... I shoot for 8 inches on a 38 inch row spacing... To get roughly a 19 - 20k final population after loss...
