674 Hydraulics

I blew a hydraulic line on my loader. After the shower of fluid, that's why I wear a hat , I replaced the line and topped up the fluid using the hole behind the seat. I was checking the dipstick periodically as I was filling it. So it's all good except when the tractor gets warm the hydraulics stutter, the steering is jerky as is the loader and 3PH. I checked the fluid when it was hot and it's nice a clear (IH Hy-tran was used) no foam but it's way over the top of the hash marks on the dipstick. Did I overfill? Should I check the fluid when it's running? Any other thoughts?
Thanks

don't know on 674 but check owners manual, work has a 695 which if my memory is right calls for running at 1500 rpm for 5 minutes then shutting off and immediatly checking dip stick. it will show low after setting awhile if checked before starting. leroy

Likely just have air trapped in the system. Remove the filler plug and cycle the hydraulics back and forth while to see if it get better. Best I remember the lift arms are to be in the down position when checking fluid level.

Hi, check the level with the engine running. No problem if the level too high. May be the hydrolic filter is clogged,it cause the system sutter. Bernard le mecano Quebec Canada

I changed the filter and cleaned the screen on the bypass valve. I lost about a litre or so of fluid doing this which was fine. There was no change on the dipstick level. Anyway, reread the manual and yes the lift arms are supposed to be down, it should run for 5 mins or so, be shut off and then checked. Level is still way over the hash marks on the dipstick and the steering is still jerky as is the 3PH. During all of this testing the pump was noisy too.

I guess the next thing is to drain some fluid and see if that helps. Is there such a thing as too much fluid?

Thanks

I fired up the tractor today, the steering was jerky, the 3PH was completely stuck down and the loader wouldn't move. I cycled the lever on the right side that allows the loader controls to operate, no luck. After a period of time the 3PH started to raise, jerking the whole time. I turned the steering wheels and heard a whine from the left side of the tractor. The steering would then become impossible to move after you turn it left and right a few times, it wouldn't go to it's limit though. It also felt like there was a load ont he tractor motoe when you did this. After running it for a bit, I shut it off in frustration. When I did this and turned the steering wheel I could hear the rush of fluid. Go figure. I also discovered that it was leaking above the right axle (some kind of valve there) and it was frothy. I wasn't frothy on the dipstick. I also saw a bit of seepage at the loader controls, the wee plungers that are operated by the levers. I've never seen that before. There was a plastic vent filter under the seat on the valve there, I removed it and cleaned it. I also ran the tractor for a bit with the filler plug removed and there was no difference.

I'm stuck. :?

Does anybody have a schematic for the hydraulic system?

Where is the pump and what it involved in removing it and having it tested?

Is there some valve not working that would cause these seeps and froth?

Thanks
