I spent the winter fixing up my "39 Farmall A. New carb, rebuilt the mag, new plug wires. It still won"t start hot. It starts easy when cold and purrs better than ever. The problem is with the throttle adjustment. When off you can push the throttle lever forward and the governor adjusts the throttle plate accordingly. Once you started it runs at the same rpm"s no matter where you adjust the throttle lever to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I get great acceleration when I move the throttle linkage by hand. Before I replaced the coil it wanted to stall out when throttle was added.

I don't think its full throttle but is higher than idle. It has been real wet here in Michigan so I didn't want to really get it out and run it. When I put it in second and took off, the governor seemed to adjust up a little once I started moving. But adjusting the throttle lever made no difference in engine rpms.

Have you set the linkage correct and did you overhaul the gov housing when you were working on the engine.Input lever gets worn and mite need the spring installed with the hooks facing out on the spring. Your problem is probably there.

Well then that's the problem. You have to make sure that linkage runs nice and smooth, and doesn't touch the tractor engine casting. Now one more thing you must set the idle screw on your carburetor so that the tractor does'nt stall out.
