Have a friend who wants to put a starter on a F20, which does not have a Bell Housing hole. He has a double pulley on crank shaft, but what kind of motor starter does he need to mount on the frame. He can charge the battery with a battery charger as often as he will use it, so no generator is needed. Thanks

if he doesnt have the right bellhousing it AINT gonna work since the starter doesnt bolt to the frame, bolts to the bellhousing. whats he gonna do for a flywheel????????

Here's another option. Rather than pull the motor, remove/replace the flywheel (which is a huge pain), and replace the bell housing; put a ring gear on the belt pulley. Some fella did this successfully on a 22-36. Don't see reason why it wouldn't work on an F-20. Of course there will be some fab work needed to mount the starter, but what else you got going on.

On our Regular, we attached a ring gear (from an M) to the belt pulley. Made a mounting plate, and attached a starter from a 560 diesel. Really spins her over.

You gotta have more imagination Ryan. But yeah you would need a LARGE pulley on the tractor side to gear the starter motor down enough to get any torque.

Howard, are you envisioning a starter bolted to the frame trying to urn the engine over off the fan pulley??

kinda sounds like a recipe for disaster

You have been the best answer I have received. I would like to have this fella call you for more details if you could send me your telephone number or call him at 843 421 8806 or 843 293 7448.Now I recall how I saw a unstyled John Deere G, ring gear on the flywheel and a starter mounted in the trans deck and sure did turn it over. Thanks Bill Jones I'll wait for your tele #

A starter and flywheel off an Isuzu pickup can easily be mounted on the pto, belt pully shaft or between the trans and the bellhousing on F20 and F30s. Works well and and it's surprising how long the battery will last between charges. Peavy
