F20 spark plugs

Just picked up a 1936 F-20 just like my grandfather used to have. It runs just fine, but I'd like to change the plugs since they probably haven't been changed since Truman was in the White House.I started to do that yesterday and realized the plugs are HUGE. I don't have a deep socket big enough for them, and without one of the plugs out, I can't tell what size socket I need. Can anyone tell me the size socket I'll need? Thanks for the help.

I have had good luck with Autolite 3077. They look a little different but work well.
For a socket, go to Sears with the new plugs and purchase a 1/2 inch drive deep socket to fit.

If it "runs just fine" why take out old spark plugs which are continuing to give good service since Truman was in the White House? You might just find the new replacements aren't made as well as the old ones. I know that is heresy, new is always better, but maybe. I would take them out, inspect them, and adjust the gap.

I'm old and not ready to be changed out either :)

I'm ashamed of myself. Andy is right: New isn't always better. I'll get a 15/16 deep socket, take out the old plugs, check the gap, and then keep using them. However, I'll also get a set of new plugs to keep around just in case. I want to thank all of you for your help. This site is great! Thanks again. Jeff (Iowaboy)

Its a 15/16" deep socket. I have Champion W-18 in my F-20. They work excellent and the tractor starts on a half or one crank everytime.

Andy -- no, your message wasn't too harsh at all! You are right that some of the older stuff is still pretty darn good. I can see that my F-20 also has the Champion W18 plugs. What gap do you use? .25? Thanks for letting me know. Jeff
