ih 456 planter

i have a 456 ih planter,left planter unit does not work,cross shaft to the front to rear shaft turns ,but not thshaft back to the planter unit,do they have shear pins on the shaft?

Check for dirt build-up on the gear teeth at the front. Also check the gear lash---may need shim washers to get the gears to mesh well. Second thing is to check the hex shafts for wear. These can be slid to one side about 2 inches to put the gears on a new section of the drive shaft in front.

Danney: I'll second what Brownie said. I spent the better part of two days cleaning packed dirt out of gears etc and realignment etc.. have extra supply of shims and/or spacers etc. Works good now and didn't cost much in parts.. ag
