I have a 1941 'A' and the screw to hold the points gap is stripped out---I need to change to the new type---What is the best way, and if possibe the, cheapest way to do this? And do I need to set the timning by the by the flywheel mark?------Will the new type 'snap' when you turn it?---thanks for any info

If you are changing from a magneto to a distributor then you will no longer have the snap of the impulse coupling. The timing is not set the same way as the magneto but will not be much trouble. For the mag you put the timing mark at TDC and then turn the magneto til the impulse couplng snaps and then set it right there at 0deg top dead center. The distributot is easiet set by putting the #1 cylinver at TDC setting the distributor close to #1 and then starting the engine and move the distributor until it is the smoothest at idle.

You now have an H4 mag, and the threads for the screw that holds the stationary "ground" breaker point are stripped, is that what you are telling us?

Should be no problem to re-tap for a slightly bigger screw, or a thread insert.

If that's all that's wrong with the mag and you don't want to attempt repairs, send it to me and I'll repair it at no charge 'cept for return mail.

With the dist, set the static timing at TDC the same as a mag. If you time it by ear you will probly end up with it firing BTC (before top center) and if you try starting with a crank it will kick back.
