656 Farmall shift linkage

Hello,
Yesterday my 656 shift linkage came apart, the handle went all the way forward and all the way back. It appears that the small pin through the shift rod fell out. I found the pin and tapped in back in to the rod. I figured to get a new pin so it would fit tighter but figured the hole was worn as well. Can I tack the new pin in the rod so it won't move. The pin is about 1" long by 5/16" diameter. The pin is the one that turns the shift linkage when the handle is pushed forward or pulled back.
Thanks for the help.

Get a new pin & center punch around the middle to get it to fit tighter. If you weld it it has to move through all the collars to shift right.

If you tack it and it breaks inside then you have a pain. If it is a roll pin, can you run a small wire through it and tie it in? Wish we still had our other 656 handy tractors.

The pin is a hardened solid pin that is pressed into the shaft. Updated parts include a new shaft with a square pins, shift lever housing, and three piece gate assembly instead of the single piece gate.
