The tag next to the seat says model: A ser. #
F.A.A.11797 The hood says super A This also has a ditributor and 6 volt coil. Can someone tell me a year of this.

Just from the serial number, somebody's clapped some SuperA decals on a 1940 A, which predates any Super A by some number of years. No difference. It's a good little tractor. If it'll do what you want, enjoy it.

kmcgee: Hard to say, Scotty suggested set of SA decals. It's almost as easy to change a serial tag.

If you want to be absolutely certain go to casting date codes. They are about 1/2" high digits, day and month by number, and year by letter. They are cast in place and have what looks like a round head, blade type screw cast between each of day , month and year. Every major casting has it's own code. If they are more than 6 months apart, some casting have been replaced.

P is 1946, Q is 1947, R is 1948, you can go backward or forward from there Tractor changed from A to Super A in late 47, most castings will interchange, some will not.

Ok one question. on the clutch housing the casting #'s are 8 15 T (1950)? The engine
1 23 w (1953)? It does have hyd. pump,tank,etc.

W is 1951. U was also used in 1951. V was not used. In that case someone has put the seat bracket from an A on it, or you missed a digit in the serial. Or someone has changed the block and torque tube. Super A serials start at 250001.

Go back and take a closer look at your serial number plate. Any chance there is a "3" in front of the 5 digits you found? Tractor 311797 was built in May '51. That would make sense with casting dates in August '50 and January '51.

CNKS: You are right, my mistake. I
went to external_link and scrolled
down to the serial numbers on both the
A and Super A, and went with the 11797.
I assumed it fit in with the 113218 which
was a 1945. To me this still could be a
Super A with an A engine. So, there is alot
of data probably not correct. Usually we
would call this a Frankinstein. I really
would need more info than I have received
so far to properly identify this tractor.
