zenith carb for a b

I"m having fits w/ a Zenith updraft carb. The tractor runs smoothly, has plenty of power, but has to have about 1/2 choke in order to idle smoothly. Is there a trick to getting the idle circuit clear? Basic carb sense says that has to be the problem, but I really thought I had it completely clean. The rest of the engine is topnotch w/ new sleeves, pistons, good valves, etc... suggestions?

You might have a vacuum leak. Double check the carburetor to manifold mounting gasket, and also check for leaks at the manifold to engine gaskets.

Would this be a situation where he could float a little propabe around those areas and see if it runs any different?

I"ve had the carb COMPLETELY apart, with every jet, orifice, plug, etc removed. All the ports seem to be clear, as I can spray cleaner through all of the circuits. There is no indication of an intake leak, but I"ll double check that too. I"ll recheck the float height... which way would be the most likley to affect the idle this way? Float too high or too low?
