Oil Slinger duty

As far as I can tell from studying the transmission gears on my 130, the oil slinger keeps lube on the reverse idler gear and may even splash some over into the differential. What say ye?

The oil slinger keeps the tranny gears and bearings oiled when the tractor is sitting stationary idling or doing stationary PTO work. SIMPLE as that.

When you select a "gear" and let the clutch out all the lots of stuff in the tranny is moving and flinging oil about, and the "oil slinger" is not needed.

If you look around the sides of the transmission case(inside) you will find oil lines cast into the case. These lines carry oil to the front and rear bearings and back to the PTO bearings. If you have it apart you should be sure to clean the sludge out of these lines and clean the well. The well is at the back of the tranny and collects sludge thus removing it from the flow. You can find it by running your finger around until it fits down into the sludge. The final drives have their own lube which you change by removing the pans at the botom of the final drives. You'll need new gaskets when you put them back together. Dave
