mysterious tilted drawbar

My drawbar tilts slightly up on the left side (escuse the mess in my garage):

Two reasons I think could be causing this. 1) It's bent. 2) The broken bracket pieces were welded too short, and it's pulling it up.

On the left angle bar, this weld is at the bottom:

And then this is underneath the left side bracket, although I can't see how that would pull the left side of the drawbar up.

So, I'm going to replace both brackets, and that angle rod. But do you think that will be enough to straighten out the drawbar, or will I need to bend it back to straight?

I think you are on the right track with the LH support rod.

I would get the new support rods and see what (if anything) needs to be done to level out the drawbar.

It is possible that it is under tension (ala bolted together while a floor jack was under a corner) and may release the elastic stress, or it might be permanently deformed and require other mechanical pressure or the blue wrench to straighten out.

Mike,
Measure the distance from the bottom of the slot on the bottom frame mount bolt hole to the drawbar at the 90 degree point.
To these old eyes the distance looks shorter on the left side.

I have a nice support rod you can have for the cost of shipping.
What is that paint on the rear axle and housing?

Thanks Gordo. I'll send you an e-mail.

No clue what the paint is (I'm assuming you mean type, like IH2125 or whatever?) It's all getting stripped off and repainted anyway. (As you can see, the fenders are still rusty.)

I believe the left axle bracket is 3/8 inch higher on the axle than the right one. Loosen measure and clamp.
The rod is shorter as well, and I would take up Gordo on his offer. Jim--from down town rochester NY

Jim,
What the heck you doing in UPNY.
Travel a little farther east in the finger lakes area and go to the Wegmans Super Market in Geneva. Best pizza you will ever have. Or one of the best.

Hope I can explain this without confusing you. The axel brackets can be mounted two different ways as I remenber(my M's are 17 miles away so I can't check myself). Mount them one way raises the drawbar; the other way lowers the drawbar. If the axel brackets are not matched one side of the drawbar would higher than the other side. Hopes this helps. Armand

Why dont you just loosen up the mounting clamps that hold it tthe axle level the hitch and righten again that will solve the problem.

I am a University representitive (ST. Cloud State University) for Project Lead The Way.
Which is a pre-engineering curriculum for Middle school/Hs students. (I teach the teachers of the teachers). I have no transport, but the schedule would not permit travel even if I had it. Thanks for the suggestion. Jim

I'm planning on doing that this weekend. I didn't realize they could be adjusted, or done so incorrectly, so I'll try to do something about it.
