Wiring on 12 volt conversion.

I am trying to finish the wiring on a M that was started and never finished. I have looked at Bobs diagrams, and the closest I see is number 5 and it is still some what different. I will tell you what I know and what I have. It has a one wire alt., 12 volt coil and neg. ground, Starter switch, a small wire from the alt. up to Alt guage, but not on either termial? A push pull fused light switch with front and rear lights. A dist. not a mag, and a push pull stop/kill switch. It also has a white ceramic looking resister between the coil and dist.
If anyone could send me an email or reply with what goes where, as it does not have the normal light switching system and would like to see if all this works before I tear completly out. I would really appreciate any and all help very much. Thanks again in advance.

Sammy - Is the "alt gage" you mention an ammeter (pointer rests at center scale 0) or a voltmeter (pointer rests on 0 at the left end of the scale)? Post back and we'll go from there.

The pull-type light switch is not original. However to wire the lights, connect one switch terminal to a 12 volt supply then all (3) light wires together on the other terminal. (Where to get the 12 volt supply depends on whether you have an ammeter or voltmeter in the elec box...)

The ceramic resistor was added to drop 12 volts to 6 volts for the coil.

It is a after maket amp meter that rest in the middle on 0 to one side is discharge and to the other is charge. I have the lights figured out. but I have all wired I think OK except the amp guage. there is one wire coming from the one wire alt. that the end is laying by the guage and then there is another short wire that hooks on the battery side of the starter button you push to get it to crank and then the other end is also laying by the amp meter. I am guessing they go on the guage, but hate to fry something. It is starting and all else seems to work, just hate to fry alt. so am afraid to hook thos two up with out some guidance. Thank you so much. If you would not mind emailing me your phone number. I sure would like to go by the tractor and call you to walk thru the wiring. I am [email protected] Thank you so very much. I want to parade this tractor in the morning if I can

I just hooked up the amp guage but does not move one way or the other and is a brand new guage. I have the wire coming from the one wire alt. attached to the amp meter on the discharge side?
I have the wire coming from the start side the push button switch, not the battery side as previous mentioned, to the discharge side of the guage. The back of the new guage did not have a plus or minus at either termanial. I know this can not be rocket science, but it has me stumped.

Generally, you want ONLY the battery on one post of the ammeter, and everything else--including the alternator--hooked to the other side.

This of course does not include the really big cables like the starter

You want any of your loads---ign, lights, etc, taken off the "everything else" side. ONLY the battery should be on one side
