need opinions on clutch issue SC

I did a complete rebuild on my super c engine. The old clutch was shot and starting to get into the lining rivets. I reassembled with a new clutch disc and orginal pressure plate which worked fine when I tore it apart. I used a small amount of grease on the end of the driveshaft to assist it in spinning inside the pilot bushing.Clutch pedal has been adjusted as per the book. It runs great but will not disengage enough to get her into any gear. But if the clutch is pushed and held and then the engine is started it will not move as it should. My only thought was that the pressure plate and or flywheel has enough high spots to prevent complete disengagement due to the new thicker clutch lining. I figured on maching flywheel and replacing pressure plate. Wondering if you guys have any better ideas before I have to split it again ? " Super C is the tractor in question" As always thanks in advance for your help.
 
When you say you adjusted it by the book did you set the finger heights before installing it or just the pedal free travel? If it is a Rockford clutch as most SC's have there is a correct finger height setting (2-3/8") with the cover spaced (27/32") for a specific preload. Get a nice flat piece of plywood, make six spacers 27/32" long (or combination of washers), put the spacers under the clutch cover and use deck screws to tighten it down to the plywood. This will put the proper preload on the pressure plate. With it in this position adjust the three fingers to a height od 2-3/8". If you did this already please ignore, if you need more explanation let me know and I'll direct you to my photo site where I have a picture of the setup.
 
The side of the disk with the springs enclosed will not fit inside of the flywheel side, And the disc has no markings as to installation diresction as far as I could see it is only possible to install it in one direction. As far as pressure plate finger measurements I made none, I would like the link gauger and thanks to all !
 
i just got with a c exacty like mr.Mirgon did with his and i have the identicle problem. i only had 1 finger out of adjustment which i corrected. i have replaced clutches and torque amplifliers numerous times and never had this happen before.
 
I had a similar problem with a Cub once. Adjusting the clutch fingers through the hand hole in the bottom fixed the issue. All it took was 1/4 turn of the adjustment screws to allow for more lift on the pressure plate.

Since you're presumably not going to work this tractor daily, it shouldn't be necessary to tear it down again to replace the pressure plate and machine the flywheel. The clutch won't last as long as far as operating hours go, but it'll likely last you the rest of your life.
