Replacement coulter blade

I've got a plow with an older IH coulter on it that's worn down to the nub. It looks like it belongs on an older plow like a #8. The yoke is cast and the hub has the old IHC logo on it.

The coulter blade is held to the hub with three rivets. I'm having a tough time finding a replacement blade. All the blades I've found have four or five rivet holes.

What was the original diameter of the blade? Is there a suitable replacement blade available?

If all else fails, you could center up any blade and drill the necessary 3 holes. I plan to do that on some hiller disk.

Not sure on the size of the blade but you can redrill holes to fit your hub as long as it fits over the center of the hub. The extra holes won't hurt a thing.

I too am having trouble finding replacements. I am told origional was 17" diameter and they are hard to find. you'll need to wonder through the bone yards but will find most of them missing. Good luck. Dave

Oh yes, coulters are a very hot commodity. That's why I'm restoring this one even though it's been worn beyond the point of being worthwhile to repair.

It was wore so bad on the axle that I replaced the 1/2" axle bolt with a 5/8". I'm going to have to fashion a bushing for the yoke on the bar too.

Figure if I spend $30 fixing this one, it'll save me having to spend $100 and months to find another used one. That'll leave me only three coulters short of my goal.

A CNC plasma torch, and a drawing can make swift work of making one. Finding carbon steel would be the hardest part. JimN

I bought a coulter of the proper Diameter and drilled holes to fit my hub. Those coulters are made from tough metal, regular drill bits won't drill them.
