I have good oil pressure for about five minutes after starting then it seems to go down to about 5 pounds of pressure.
I bought a new gage thinking the old one was bad, but get the same results. No noise like the oil pump isn't working and have not froze up the engine yet, just puzzles me why the loss in pressure.
Had the pan off and can't see anything obivious with the pump. 52 superC

As the oil warms up it is getting thinner and thinner until it is up to operating temp.

This is the classic symptom of an engine needing an overhaul. Oil pressure is controlled mainly by the main, rod and camshaft bearings.

dont forget about the oil pump they have a tendency to warp the bottom plate, leading to the low oil pressure too...

If you still have the oil pan off, remove the bottom plate from the oil pump. Be careful to not drop anything out of the pump body. Put some sand paper on a flat surface and sand the plate flat again. This should help increase the oil pressure a few more pounds.

I thought that could be the problem, how safe is it to use for pleasure, not work, until winter when I could pull the engine. I like driving it on my back roads and show it at tractor shows.
I don,t want to seize the engine
