Hi guys I have a 42 H that will jump out of road gear. I have the top transmission cover off, and the inside teeth of the 4/5 slider gear are worn pretty good, and the gear needs replacing. How do i go about getting this gear off the splined shaft? Thanks in advance, all help is greatly appreciated.

You have to remove the lift all and then the main drive shaft coupling and the clutch shaft. When all that is out, you unbolt the bearing/holder assembly from the front of the transmission housing. The assembly, including the bearing holder, seal holder and the transmission input shaft will then slide out the front of the transmission. I can't recall if the gear will slide off over the pinion bearing or not, but I think you will have to remove the retainer bolt for the pinion bearing, remove the pinion bearing and then the 4/5 slider gear can be taken off and replaced. While you are in there, make sure to check the transmission input bearings for play and replace if needed and you might as well put a new shaft seal in as well.

Thanks alot Haas, I appreciate the detailed description...if I have any more questions I will be sure to ask.
