Generator mounting

I had the 12v genny tested and cleaned. It's all good to go. So today I pulled my 6v genny off, and the mounting setup is a bit of a mess. It looked like some homemade brackets were put on the tractor to fit the genny on.

The pulley on the 12v that came off an MD is different. So originally I was going to swap the pulleys, figuring the H needed the one on the 6v to get it to sit right. But after I saw the hack job, I'm wondering if the pulley is wrong on the 6v, and the hack job was done to make it fit?

How do I figure out what the correct pully is, and how it should mount?

Also, the 12v has 2 screw holes on the top for a VR. Is that all a VR requires is just 2 screw holes?

There are only two particular concerns, one is that the belt is straight from pulley to pulley, the other is that it can be tightened without hitting the hood. There are two ways to put on the bracket, and the holes in the bracket can be made into slots (either milled out, or filed out with a rat tail file) There are only two screws holding on the reg. Make sure they are short to avoid shorting the inner workings , JimN

I think the MD regulators were mounted in front of the steering column. My suggestion, if you are using a VR and not a cutout, is to put it where it would be on an H that came with a VR and not a cutout. Cutouts were, however, mounted on the generator.

MD pulley is wrong for a H. Pulley is to close to generator. If your going to use H mounts you need the adjustable H pulley.

Don't know any tricks. Sometimes they will just come off after nut is removed by holding pulley with the weight of generator hanginging just off work bench and striking end of shaft. That is taking a chance on messed up threads. On gas ones a bearing clamp type puller can be used on heavy inside part of pulley after taking set screw out if adjustable. On MD type a thin one in pulley grove works.
